7/27/06 10:26 am - Goodbye Velvetdemon.com

I had to make a very hard decision this week. Unfortunately I will be unable to financially continue running Velvet Demon. I wish I had both the time and the money to make it the best site it could be. It makes me very sad to see it go.This was my first website I ever made and the subject matter is still very close to my heart. Hopefully, in the near future when I have a better job, I will be able to revive it again. Otherwise, as of August 20 this site will no longer be running. Some of the galleries will be moving over to the Mad Capper, mostly movie caps, video's and the VG scans section.

Thank you all for the support you gave me over the years to continue on with it. It was a fun 4 years. =)

EDIT: Well, it looks like I can keep Velvet Demon as a subaccount of The Mad Capper. I'm going to transfer the Domain Name to GoDaddy and use their referrer service to point the velvetdemon URL to the new subaccount URL.

This is the new URL for Velvet Demon:

http://www.themadcapper.net/~velvetdemon/

It's going to take a while to upload all the images to the new server but at least it will have a new home to live at, completely intact. The uploading has begun. =D

9/6/05 09:41 pm - Major Updates:

Velvet Goldmine is now completely uploaded HERE.

I started a music screen capture section also. There's 14 album filled with Placebo screen captures from their videos. Also added a David Bowie SEction and Alice Cooper. As I cap other glammers they will be added as well.

Started sections for Toni Collette and Christian Bale.

Be sure to check it out. Feedback is always appreciated. =)

The pages are now uploaded. =D

I've actually did something constructive today, like building web pages. YAY!!

I'm currently uploading them now. There's about 14 new pages and maybe if my software is nice to me I can get a few more up by the end of the night. The only problem I've had is with my batch conversion program. For some reason it keeps numbering the images out of order. Not drastically but enough that it's noticeable and aggravating to me. At this point I just want to get them up on the site, first and foremost. If it really bothers than I try to fix it later.

I'll update again later once all the pages have been uploaded.

4/7/05 10:25 pm - 70's memories...

I was watching Happy Days the other day and something occurred to me. I was a big fan of Pinky and Leather Tuscadero. I thought they were just the coolest and how could they not be. Pinky was the female equivalent to Fonzie and her little sister was a hard core rock 'n' roller. Leather just happened to be played by glam gal Suzi Quatro. (which I'm sure you're all aware of already).

I just remember when my friends and I would play Happy Days (yes, we actually would play make believe Happy Days) that I always wanted to be Leather. I guess even at 6 and 7 years of age I knew Glam was cool. LOL!!

Okay enough of my sick sad life for today. ;)

4/7/05 10:25 pm - fiction and reality...

We all know that there a ton of true life comparsions between Velvet Goldmine and David Bowie/Glam Era.This following real life comparsion comes from the book GLAM! Bowie, Bolan and the Glitter rock revolution. (It has a great forward by Todd Haynes that I need to type up as well.)

On page 102:

There was one final glam bash held in Los Angeles - the 'Hollywood Strret Revival and Dance', staged at the Palladium on 11 October. Paying homage to the prescient 'Death of Hippie' march in San Francisco seven years before, this 'Death of Glitter' night - so dubbed by Kim Fowley - was a valiant attempt to kill glam before the media had finished it off. Starring Iggy Pop, the New York Dolls and Silverhead, it was nothing short of a wake for the whole English Disco scene. ( Glam Club on Sunset in CA) 'All over Hollywood that night it was glitter,' recalled Chuckie Star, a fixture of Rodney's. (English Disco) 'THe line to get into the Palladium was incredible. Everyone in LA knew it was their last chance to wear platformshoes and eyeshadow. This was it! Surfers from Malibu were there in midriff shirts, silver space boots, and blue eye make-up, hugging their girlfriends as they waited to get in.'

When the Dolls had finished the show with 'Personality Crisis', Star was carried on stage in a lidless glitter coffin. As the coffin passed through the revellers, Star's chest was strewn with glitter and roses. 'By definition it was all kind of tragic,' Michael Des Barres reminisced. "But so what? There wasn't the pressure we have today; rock 'n' roll had yet to become corporate. Anything provocative was possible back then. What was so great about the glam era was that it was showbiz, but it was tainted showbiz.'

In time Rodney's (Bingenheimer) crowd would give birth to LA's very own proto-punk scene, with Bingenheimer himself playing a key role as a DJ on KROQ. Kim Fowley would package the Quatro-esque Runnaways, Jane Wiedlin would form the Go-Go's and Joan Jett would record the Arrows' 'I Love Rock 'n' Roll'. It was the fans' turn to be the stars.

Just felt like sharing that tidbit of information. =)

4/5/05 11:21 am - Picture Spam post...

Just thought I would upload a few pictures from the next grouping to be uploaded...

Clicky, clicky... )

I was hoping to get many of the pages built for these images yesterday. Instead, I spent the day renaming images and putting a hotlink banner in its place. I use Frontpage to build and have not found a way to block hotlinking yet. Many wallpapers were being used as backgrounds for people at myspace.com. So I just had to ruin some peoples layouts since they were stealing my bandwidth. In some ways I do get an evil joy from that. But I figure it's only right since they are stealing money out of my pocket. Hotlinking just pisses me off. 'nuff said!!

4/3/05 08:43 pm - Site Update...

Just uploaded 26 pages of screen captures. This will be up to Chapter 20. So all of Baby's on Fire is uploaded but I haven't had a chance to upload the Curt and Brian in bed scene yet. Hopefully that will be up in the next day or so. =)

Currently capturing Chapter 21 Curt Wild's recording session.
